DOHA: Prof Hala Sultan Al Easa (pictured), Head, Chemistry and Earth Sciences Department, College of Arts and Sciences, Qatar University (QU), has been listed among the ‘175 faces of chemistry’ by Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in recognition of her achievements in the field.
She was recognised for being a role model and an ambassador for the future generation of scientists, and her contribution to building skills, knowledge and experience of young chemists to achieve success in their professional endeavours.
Her additional contributions were as president of Qatar Chemical Society and a member and the first Arab to chair Chemical Review Committee of United Nations Environmental Program through her participation in establishing international protocols on the environment and agriculture to protect humans.
Prof Al Easa said: “I am pleased to have received the recognition which will encourage other scientists, especially my students, to be Qatar’s next scientists.”
Dr Eiman Mustafawi, Dean of the college, said: “Congratulations to Dr Al Easa on this much-deserved recognition. “It is indicative of the quality of our faculty, which has positioned them as role models for their peers and students, and as well-regarded contributors to national development strategies,” Dr Mustafawi added. The ‘175 faces of chemistry’ website was launched in celebration of RSC’s 175th anniversary to be commemorated in February next year.
