DOHA: The Qatar Development Fund (QDF) and the US-based Carter Center have signed a framework partnership agreement for cooperation in global healthcare and development projects and fighting diseases in poor and developing countries.
The deal will specify common areas of action and general principles for management of initiatives and activities between both parties and identify vision and common goals, Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
It was signed by Ali Abdullah Al Dabbagh, Executive Director, QDF, and Stephen Blount, Director, Special Health Projects, Carter Center.
The centre was founded in 1982 by former US president Jimmy Carter and wife Rosalynn, in partnership with Emory University, to advance global peace and health.
The deal aims to follow up and find opportunities for cooperation to control diseases, implement activities to develop healthcare in the countries of strategic importance to both sides. It also allows exchange of experiences and information to achieve sustainable development goals.
The centre will provide technical expertise in the health sector and treatment of diseases and QDF will give support to the health sector in poor and developing countries to achieve one of the most important goals of sustainable development.
The agreement also seeks to facilitate exchange of information on related projects and promotion of the partnership at the global level to encourage other parties to engage in development activities. It is valid for five years and can be renewed.
The signing ceremony was attended by Khalifa Jassim Al Kuwari, Director-General, QDF, Curtis Kohlhaas, Chief Development Officer at the centre and other officials.
