Cherif, Tijan arrive in Tokyo as Tala begins training

Tokyo: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain yesterday visited Team Qatar accommodation at the Olympic Village of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. 

Satisfied with the arrangements, Al Buenain appreciated the administrative delegation’s efforts in providing safe environment for Team Qatar athletes at this global sports event affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also yesterday, Ahmed Yousef Al Darwish, Team Qatar’s Deputy Chef de Mission stressed that administrative delegation will leave no stone unturned to help the Qatari athletes perform to their full potentials and do our nation proud.

Cherif, Tijan arrive in Tokyo 
On the other hand, Qatar’s beach volleyball team arrived in Tokyo yesterday to participate in the Games.
The delegation is headed by President of Qatar Volleyball Association Ali bin Ghanem Al Kuwari. Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan were drawn in Pool C and will take on World No 5 Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb of the United States, World No 18 Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi of Italy and World No 19 Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland.
The Qatari duo will begin their campaign in the Olympics on July 25 with a match against Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland. 
The beach volleyball competitions will be held at Shiokazi Park Stadium.

Tala begins preparations  
Qatar’s rower Tala Abujbara began her training sessions in Tokyo Olympic waters. Tala secured her spot in Tokyo Olympics after clocking a time of 8:20 minutes at Asia and Oceania Rowing Qualification Championship in Kuwait.
Tala claimed the gold medal of the 2016 GCC Rowing Championships in Doha and the bronze medal of the 2017 Arab Rowing Championships in Tunisia.
Based in the city of Takasaki, the Qatar track and field stars also continued their training for the third consecutive day.
Meanwhile, Team Qatar’s Media delegation visited Tokyo Media Centre yesterday. Abdulhadi Al Sahli, Head of Team Qatar’s Media delegation said that the visit will help the Qatari media personnel provide the best media coverage for Tokyo Olympics.
The Tokyo Games, pushed back by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will begin on Friday.
