Doha: President of the Arab Union for the Blind Khalid bin Ali Al Nuaimi revealed that the fifth Doha International Conference for the Blind will be organised during the first half of 2022, under the slogan “People with Visual Disabilities... Rehabilitation and Employment”.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Nuaimi said that the conference, which is expected to held between March and April, aims to rehabilitate people with visual disabilities for the labour market so that they have the ability to achieve their goals and perform their duties.
He noted that all local, regional and international institutions and organisations that have a direct relationship to the labour market will be invited, such as the International Labour Organization, the Arab Labour Organization, human rights institutions, and other rehabilitation-related institutions, will be invited. Al Nuaimi added that the Arab Union for the Blind will continue its negotiations with Arab governments on the international Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, especially with regard to the items concerned with education, work, rehabilitation, assistance and converging views on the unresolved issues that hinder the implementation of this convention.
He noted that the Union will hold this year activities and events for the benefit of blind Arabs in various social, cultural and sports aspects, in addition to organizing an interactive remote seminar on people with disabilities in their families on January 22, with the participation of active community elites in the field of people with disabilities.
The seminar will discuss several topics, most importantly raising the society’s awareness of the capabilities of people with visual disabilities, and how to deal with them.
