Boy and girl students representing 30 schools from Qatar participating in the Olympic Day programme organised by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) at the Aspire Academy Park.
DOHA: Around 600 students (boys and girls) representing 30 schools across Qatar participated positively in the Olympic Day organised by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) at the Aspire Academy Park on Thursday.
A number of local sport federations made a positive contribution during the Olympic Day, by providing students with a new literature about multiple sport programs, also enhanced their awareness about the values of sport love, cooperation and friendship.
The one-day event brought together some 10 local sport federations including gymnastics, handball, sailing and rowing, fencing, taekwondo, judo, volleyball, golf, wrestling, cycling and swimming.
The Olympic Day is an annual event marked and celebrated by all National Olympic Committees across the world. It symbolizing the Olympic spirit that aims to develop values of peace and love among nations through the sport.
Qatar Olympic Committee organises this annual event in the frame of its significant role to promote sport activities and entertainment programs among domestic community, that in effort to improve individual mental and dynamic growth, as well as to circulate the Olympic values among society categories.
Students from different educational levels made a positive participation in the Olympic Day’s programs and activities , they unanimously hailed the values and new culture they gained about the sport activities.
Khaleel Al Jabir, Director of the QOC Sports Affairs Department appreciated the tangible role played by the sport federations and Supreme Education Council in teaching students the values of sport.
He said that the event is a golden chance for the sports federations to discover the talented students in a bid to support the national teams.
Mohammed Issa Al Fadallah, Head of activities and events unit at QOC Sport Affairs Department said the objective behind the Olympic Day is to back the local federations role in spreading the sport among the society and making it as integral part of human life.
Salah Ibrahim from the Qatar Cycling Federation (QCF) said that the QCF participated in the event for the first time as our coaches taught the participating children the basic skills of cycling.
Khalid Ezzat from the Qatar Handball Association (QHA) stressed that the QHA is trying to look for the talented students to help them join the Qatari clubs and added that the association also promoted for the 2015 IHF World Championships during the Olympic Day.
Hassan bin Ruqaya, coach of the Qatari Golf team reaffirmed that the Olympic Day will help introduce the different sports to the students especially golf.
Mohammad Hassouna from the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVBA) extended his appreciation to the QOC officials for holding such festival that enabled the students learn the rules of the different sports including volleyball.
