DOHA: Pakistan’s Defence and Martyrs Day themed “We Love Pakistan”, was celebrated on September 13 at Pakistan International School Qatar (PISQ) to commemorate the sacrifices made by martyrs of Pakistan Armed Forces during Indo-Pak wars.
The event also acclaimed the heroic sacrifices of military and civilian personnel during the dark days of terrorism that have plagued the country for a long time.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of few verses from The Holy Quran preceded by the National Anthem of Pakistan. Ahsan Rasheed from the Senior Boys Wing formally welcomed the Chief Guest Murad Baseer, Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Pakistan in Doha, Commodore Irfan Taj, Defence Attaché, Principal Nargis Raza Otho, Vice Principals, all other dignitaries, teachers and students.
At the program’s opening, the national song, “Ay Raah-e-Haq k Shaheedo”, was presented by a choir of students from the Senior Girls Wing in their soulful voices. The audience listened in reverent silence as the singers paid homage to the sacrifices made by countless martyrs to protect the motherland and to provide a better tomorrow to their countrymen by offering their lives in recompense.
An informative talk show, a joint project of Senior Girls Wing and Senior Boys Wing, succeeded the performance. Life histories of many eminent martyrs including M. M. Alam, Major Shabbir Sharif, Captain Yasir Ali, Captain Asfandyar Bukhari, Tahira Qazi, and Aitzaz Hassan were projected in inspirational words to familiarize the audience with the passion and the deep need to protect and cherish one’s country which inspires a common citizen to lay down his life selflessly for the greater good.
Theme song of the event, “Hamain Pyaar Hai Pakistan Se”, sung once again by the students of Senior Girls Wing, brought to light the patriotism and love embedded in the very being of every Pakistani, and called to attention the importance of living in freedom.
At the program’s culmination, Commodore Irfan Taj, shared his thoughts with the audience, stressing upon the necessity to remain steadfast and clearheaded in these times of confusion and propaganda when the young generation is being specifically targeted through media.
