Doha: In the context of preparations for the launch of the 9th edition of the Senyar Festival at the Cultural Village, Katara in May, the organising committee of the festival held a meeting with the 55 participating teams.

The Senyar Festival is scheduled to be held on May 2-5 and includes the fishing and mandrake competitions.

Jihad Al Jaidah, a member of the organising committee of the festival, said that this version had some differences in terms of hunting, calculating points and weight. In previous years, the result was calculated based on the largest amount of catch, and some of the participating teams brought in very large quantities of fish, which constituted a great effort on the captains and judges, stressing that this method was welcomed by the contestants.

He added that in terms of prizes, the prize increased and the total amounted to QR2,200,000 for the first 15 positions.

Al Jaidah pointed out that all competitions in the fishing process have been unified to include Hadaq and Mandrake altogether, after they used to include diving and other types of competitions.

The number of licensees in the team will range from 8 to 12 people, with the exception of two participants from the GCC countries and two residents of Qatar.

For his part, Saeed Abdul Rahman Al Kuwari, Director of Senyar Operations, said that the new law, instructions and directives for all participating teams were explained, as it took into account that it is an easy and simple mechanism that preserves the state’s fish stocks. On the other hand, he explained the various conditions, criteria, means of communication, and the arbitration mechanism for this version.

Saif Issa Al Sulaiti, another member of the organising committee, explained that the bearings will be gathered on Katara Beach on April 27 to May 2, where they will be equipped to be ready for competitions.
