Sachal Jazz Band performing at Katara Cultural Village on Monday.
DOHA: The diplomatic community, dignitaries and a large number of people from different walks of life witnessed a live concert and enjoyed the fusion of melodious and famous eastern classical music and western Jazz at Katara Cultural Village. The event was organised to promote the cultural ties between Qatar and Pakistan.
Dr. Khalid Al Sulaiti, CEO of Katara Cultural Village, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani, member of Royal Family, and Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani, Director of Public Health and member of Royal Family, graced the occasion by attending the concert.
Shahzad Ahmad, Ambassador of Pakistan to Qatar, during his speech thanked all for honouring this event. He said that Doha is establishing itself as a centre for cultural activity like no other city in the region. And all thanks to the efforts of Katara’s very dynamic team led by Dr. Khalid Al Sulaiti. The crowd gave an ecstatic applause to Dr. Khalid Al Sulaiti for his efforts in promoting cultural understanding and for sponsoring this event.
The Ambassador further added that we should consider ourselves extremely fortunate, that we have an internationally acclaimed jazz ensemble with us.
Few of you would think it would come from Pakistan. Pakistan is a country of great culture and history. And if you follow jazz, you’ll know that their first album stormed to the top of the itunes jazz charts.
He added that they have done outstanding and improvised performances with great legends such as Wynton Marsallis at the Lincoln Centre in New York. They have played at the Barbican in London, the Marciac Jazz Festival in France, the Tokyo Jazz festival and they were recently honoured to perform at the United Nations.
They are coming fresh to Doha after having completed a very extensive tour of the US at the end of last year. I would like to thank the Sachal Jazz Band for adding us to its list of tour destinations. And a special thanks to Katara, Qatar Airways and McNair Chambers for their support & sponsorship and in particular to Professor Khawar Qureshi, QC without whom this event wouldn’t have happened.
