Doha: Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), will showcase the integral link of its flagship development, Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD), with traditional Qatari culture, architecture and sustainable living at the Heritage Day celebration to be organised by Qatar Foundation on April 18 and 19, 2016.
Heritage Day is a celebration of the nation’s rich history and traditions and aims to explore the different aspects of Qatar’s culture and raise awareness of its glorious past.
The event aims to promote awareness on Msheireb Downtown Doha, the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project, located in the heart of the capital, and its commitment to preserving Qatari architecture and culture through pioneering initiatives and sustainable innovations.
An array of colourful activities will be held as part of the event, and visitors will be provided insights on how traditional Qatari architecture and styles influenced the project, and learn about key sustainability features incorporated in the project that has helped create a template for future generations.
Engineer Abdulla Hassan Al Mehshadi (pictured), CEO, Msheireb Properties, said: “The Heritage Day, organised by Qatar Foundation, is a compelling platform to celebrate the cultural heritage and rich history of our nation.
“At the event, we are putting the spotlight on how Qatari culture and architecture have served as the inspiration and guiding force of Msheireb Downtown Doha. Apart from celebrating how our architectural traditions have strong influence in modern project development, we are underlining the sustainability features of our development that positions it as a model for urban regeneration.”
He added: “The sustainability features that we have integrated in Msheireb Downtown Doha are a testament to the forward looking vision of our ancestors. Much before the advent of modern technology, they devised measures to make the buildings environment-friendly.
“We are paying tribute to them through Msheireb Downtown Doha, which also includes the restoration of heritage buildings as part of Msheireb Museums.”
Edutainment activities will be held for the public including students during the Heritage Day celebrations. The Peninsula
