Doha: The Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles has marked around 300 abandoned vehicles to be removed in Doha Municipality. The committee launched a new campaign yesterday.

The drive is being implemented by the Committee in coordination with the Departments of Mechanical Equipment and General Cleanliness, in cooperation with Doha Municipality and the Internal Security Force - Lekhwiya.

The campaign was attended by Hamad Sultan Al Shahwani, Head of General Monitoring Department of Doha Municipality; Captain Turki Sherida Al Kaabi from the General Directorate of Traffic and a committee member, and Doha Municipality officials.

Al Shahwani said that the campaign targeted abandoned vehicles across Doha Municipality, as it is the second campaign to remove such cars and equipment in the country for the year 2022 after covering Al Rayyan Municipality during the last period.

He said that this is part of a systematic action plan to remove the abandoned cars in the country for the current year.

Al Shahwani pointed out that about 300 abandoned cars were detected in Doha Municipality, and work is underway to remove them over two consecutive weeks.

He added that the committee’s work plan will be completed during 2022, during which work will be intensified in three phases in all municipalities, as 3 campaigns were slated for each municipality compared to last year, which witnessed only two phases of campaigns.

Al Shahwani said that over the past two weeks, approximately 523 abandoned cars were removed from various areas of Al Rayyan Municipality, at a rate of 25 to 30 cars per day.

He pointed out that after the completion of the operation in Doha Municipality the campaign will move to Umm Salal Municipality, and after its completion, the municipalities of the northern part of the country will be covered, and then will go to other municipalities, according to the timetable set by the committee to remove abandoned cars in the country.

Al Shahwani said that the phenomenon of abandoned cars will be confronted by intensifying campaigns and raising awareness and alerting vehicle owners. He said such vehicles are mostly found in residential areas.

He urged the public to cooperate with the efforts of removing abandoned cars, to eliminate the phenomenon of the spread of abandoned cars in all regions of the country.
