Volunteers after cleaning at Al Zubara beach.
DOHA: The French Embassy, Francophone network Doha Accueil, Doha Environmental Cleaning Project (DEAP) and Project Rescue Ocean Qatar joined hands on November 2 heading to Al Zubarah for a large beach cleaning operation gathering more than a hundred volunteers.
Florian Cardinaux, deputy head of mission of the French Embassy, re-called that the fight against climate change and for the protection of the environment is a top priority for France.
“We very much value the engagement of Qatar by our sides on these issues, through major events such as, last September, the second edition of the One Planet Summit organised by President Emmanuel Macron in New York, to which H H the Amir participated. But we also value smaller, day-to-day concrete events aiming at raising awareness such as this beach cleaning operation. We strongly encourage the French community in Qatar to take part in such events,” said Cardinaux.
He also thanked on this occasion the environment protection associations: “Project Rescue Ocean” and “Doha Environmental Actions Project”, DEAP, and the Francophone network “Doha Accueil”, who joined their efforts for this beach cleaning initiative, part of the Qatar Sustainability week 2018 organised by the Qatar Green Building Council, member of Qatar Foundation.
José Saucedo, heading DEAP in Qatar declared: “This was DEAP’s 70th beach cleanup. 85 volunteers removed 1,300 kilos of trash from Zubara beach, cleaning a stretch of 250 meters of beach. Our mission is to help others discover Qatar with a purpose, and to allow Qatar’s natural landscapes to remain a beautiful source of pride, and a litter free space for generations to come”. From her side, Valérie Boscherel, Doha Accueil President added: “The French Community is very involved in environmental subject and proud to contribute to Qatar’s actions for sustainability.
