
DOHA: Ooredoo yesterday officially opened registration for the 2016 Ooredoo Marathon, as the company aimed to make next year’s race the biggest and best-ever.
Now in its fourth year, the Ooredoo Marathon will take place on Friday, January 8, 2016.
Ooredoo is working with a range of partners across Qatar to encourage more people to participate.
In particular, the company is looking to encourage more kids to run in the children’s races and more people from all walks of life to get involved in their first race.
More than 3,250 participants registered for the event in 2015, and Ooredoo is using feedback from those runners to enhance the route, support services and the overall experience for 2016.
Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, Director of Community and& Public Relations, Ooredoo, said: “The Ooredoo Marathon has become a key annual event for people at all levels of fitness and experience, from dedicated runners through to novices looking to compete for the first time.”
She added in a statement: “This year, we want everyone to feel they can take part, and we want to know what’s driving them, whether it’s health, charity, the fun of the challenge, or perhaps to win.”
For 2016, the marathon will featurea range of courses for runners at all levels of experience, including a full marathon, half-marathon, 10km, 5km and a special children’s 3km fun-run.
The races are open to all, and prizes will be awarded to the best runners in a range of categories, based on age and gender.
For 2016, the total prize purse is worth QR1,000,000.
All funds raised by entry fees to the Ooredoo Marathon are donated to a range of worthy charities.

For safety reasons, no entries are permissible from those using roller skates, bicycles or with pushchairs.
No pets or other animals are permitted.
