Doha: Mohammed Saeed Haidan combined superbly with his trusted mount Miss Chili and D Saucedo to make a telling opening start to the new domestic show jumping season as he claimed top two spots of the Big Tour title of the Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour's first leg at the Qatar Euqestrian Federation’s Indoor Arena yesterday.
Haidan, who has been excelling with each season, returned flawless routine times of 27.5secs and 30.52secs with grey mare Miss Chili in the Table A, Special Two Phases, Art. 274.2.5 (130/140cm) event which has Qatar’s top riders competing.
In his second outing with dark brown stud D Saudeco, Haidan had almost as impressive times of 27.87secs and 30.77secs to claim the runners-up spot on the podium as well.
Hamad Nasser Al Qadi, another seasoned rider, won the third podium place with SIEC Lonnie, a bay gelding, clocking 30.84secs and 33.17secs in the two phases respectively.
Mubarak Yousef Al Rumaihi finished a close fourth riding Casal Des Forets in 28.18secs and 33.78secs.
Earlier, the Open Class show was topped by Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi with a swift and flawless Table A, One round against the clock (115/120cm) routine in 43.42secs with chestnut gelding Hermes Van De Meersen.
Rashid Towaim Al Marri astride Mirav/D Roshoeve finished second at 46.23 while Jaber Rashid Al Amri riding Canavaro De Muze (E.T.) being third, clocking a flawless routine in 46.89secs.
The morning session yesterday witnessed impressive action of the Future Riders’ class where Jassim Abdullah Shaibani riding CJ Baba Van De Roshoeve excelled in the Optimum Time (Max 90cm) in 61.86secs, and Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Jassim Al Thani rode Tequila Sunrise with elan to win the Optimum Time (Max 80cm) event with the best time of 48.07secs.
The fifth edition of the hugely popular Qatar Equestrian Tour series has been extended to a total of 14-legs this season.
The 2nd Longines Hathab Tour is scheduled for October 29 and 30th and will be held at the Indoor Arena of Qatar Equestrian Federation.
