Ankara: The Turkish Ministry of Defense stated Thursday that the Israeli airstrikes on central Damascus - following attacks on southern Syria - constitute a clear provocation that undermines hopes for peace and stability in the Middle East.

The ministry warned of the potential repercussions of such actions on regional security and stability.

Speaking at a press conference, the ministry's spokesperson, Navy Colonel Zeki Akturk, said that Israel has dragged the region into a state of instability and chaos, stressing the urgent need for Israel to immediately end its aggressive maneuvers, which could have irreparable consequences for the region.

Turkish security sources revealed on Thursday that Ankara played a key role in brokering a ceasefire in Syria's Suwayda province.

The sources affirmed that Turkiye adopted a firm stance and stood in support of the Syrian government.
