DOHA: As part of a nationwide plan to renovate and develop mosques across the country, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced the commencement of comprehensive maintenance work at the Ali Hamad Abdullah Al-Attiyah Mosque, located in the Industrial Area.

This initiative is part of the Engineering Affairs Department’s strategic efforts to upgrade and enhance major mosques in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. It aims to improve mosque infrastructure, accommodate population growth, and provide an optimal environment for worshippers.

Built in 2001, the Ali Al-Attiyah Mosque is a key religious landmark in the Industrial Area. Spanning over 23,226 square meters, the mosque can accommodate up to 2,237 worshippers.

It features two towering minarets, spacious ablution areas, and ample parking with dedicated spaces for people with disabilities. An adjacent Eid prayer ground also serves the wider community during Eid prayers.

The extensive renovation works will include complete refurbishment of the main prayer halls, replacement of mosque carpets and installation of a new chandelier, upgrading of waterproofing systems to prevent leakage, replacement of all internal and external flooring, full overhaul of air conditioning, electrical, and sound systems, comprehensive maintenance of the adjacent Eid prayer ground, which serves large congregations

The project also incorporates sustainability measures, such as the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting and water-saving sanitary fixtures to minimize resource consumption and support environmental goals.

The Engineering Affairs Department emphasised that this renovation is part of the Ministry’s annual maintenance and rehabilitation plan for mosques and imams’ residences. The upgrades aim to preserve the structural and aesthetic quality of mosques, enhance operational efficiency, and provide a serene and welcoming space for worshippers.

These efforts are being carried out in parallel with mosque construction and expansion projects in densely populated areas, reflecting the Ministry’s continuous commitment to the upkeep and development of religious facilities.

This project aligns with the Ministry’s broader strategy to support social development by providing exemplary religious facilities that meet the evolving needs of the community. The Ministry continues to advance the role of mosques as centres of religious, cultural, and educational enlightenment.
