DOHA: Several parts of Doha, areas in the North of the country and the central regions witnessed rains yesterday.
It was still raining in Doha and many other parts of the country when this report was being written at 6.25 last evening.
The weather bureau said in a special bulletin that its warning for the sea-goers will remain valid until Saturday.
Light and scattered rains are possible in some areas today and tomorrow as well but the chances are remote, according to the bulletin. The bureau expects that in most areas in the country the weather should be clear today and tomorrow.
However, a fresh spell of unstable weather is likely again from March 21 with chances of scattered rains that could be accompanied with thunder at times. The bulletin said that a trough of low pressure continues to effect the country with chances of scattered rains continuing until late last night.
A forecaster told this newspaper that since it was still raining at 6pm, exact estimates of rainfall in different areas for yesterday could not be given. He, though, said that several parts of Doha, including the Old Airport locality, witnessed a little more than 8mm of rainfall last morning.
The bureau’s routine forecast for today said rains with thunder and at times associated with strong winds, could be expected earlier in the day.
The seas will not be calm as waves could reach a height of seven feet in some areas at times, with thunderstorm expected with high winds.
In shore, dust could hang in the air in some places today and in several areas scattered rains are possible, with the weather being partly cloudy to cloudy.
Inland, northwesterly to northeasterly wind could gather speed at times from 12 knots an hour to 20 knots during thunder.
Offshore, northwesterly wind may likely move at speeds of five knots to 15 knots an hour initially, and may later gather momentum up to 25 knots an hour.
The bureau’s routine forecast warned that visibility could be quite low early this morning—up to 3km or less. However, it may improve to four to eight km as the day progresses.
It is quite interesting to note that the routine weather forecast suggested that there wouldn’t be much difference between day and night temperatures at least in some places.
For example, in Dukhan, the day temperature forecast is 21 degrees C while the nightly mercury level is likely to be 19 degrees C. In Abu Samra, on the borders of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, a similar weather pattern in expected. The day temperature expected here is 23 degrees C while at night it would be 21. In Doha, though, the difference will be that of six degrees C as the mercury in the daytime is forecast at 26 degrees C whereas at night it may fall to 20 degrees. The Peninsula
