DOHA: Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) hosted a two-day workshop as part of the 2015 fall programme of International Education And Resource Network (iEARN).
The event was hosted by National Center for Educational Development (NCED) at Qatar University (QU), sponsored by Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat).
The iEARN programme builds on the basic principle of project-based learning (PBL) and empowers teachers and youth to collaborate online to connect classroom learning with real world issues.
It allows young students to acquire skills in critical thinking and cross-cultural awareness while connecting their learning to real world issues, making learning challenging and enjoyable.
A new group of 39 teachers from 17 Independent and private schools had the opportunity to join the worldwide community and learn about the basics of PBL, acquiring know-how on how to implement iEARN projects and cooperating online with teachers and students from more than 140 countries.
“Since its inception in Qatar, more than 400 teachers from over 100 schools in the country have attended iEARN workshops and participated in iEARN projects with students.
“iEARN-Qatar is one more programme that supports ROTA’s vision of empowering youth to realise their full potential and shape the development of their communities,” said ROTA Executive Director Essa Al Mannai.
The programme enables participants to become global citizens who make a difference by collaborating with their peers around the world. ROTA recognised the need in Qatar to elevate the project and at the beginning of 2014, welcomed QU’s College of Education as partner on the project.
iEARN was included as one of the programmes of NCED. Also, a three-year sponsorship deal signed with Muntajat in 2014 has boosted the size and quality of the initiative.
