Environment minister voices determination on quality based urbanization

Doha: HE the Minister of Environment Ahmed bin Amer Al Humaidi said that the State of Qatar is determined to build its urban development on clear bases of quality, through commitment to construction specifications which are compatible with Qatar's cultural heritage, environment and Arab identity.
In his opening speech at the 2nd Conference on Qatar Construction Specifications, HE the Minister said that an important milestone has been achieved, in the march Qatar's construction specifications (QCS), by adopting the first edition of QCS in 2002. The fifth edition of it was launched last year and became obligatory in May 2015, he added.
HE the Minister pointed that QCS was adopted as a Qatari obligatory technical regulation in line with the overall boom in the state under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
He stressed that the march will continue with optimistic look to the future and keenness on further developing the experience. A large number of executives and consultants will conduct dialogues and discussions on some chapters of QCS aiming at better understanding of means of implementation and developing constructive recommendations on how to "move forward in the commitment". 
HE the Minister Announced the official launch of the Qatari version of the ASTM standards, pointing that the agreement which was signed with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), made the Qatari specifications and their American references available to all researchers and practitioners in Qatar and the world.
QCS is a technical guideline that should be adhered to by both public and private sectors, he said adding that the concerned companies need to invest more in training and to attach more importance to communion with the competent government agencies to inquire about any specification and its application.
He stressed the importance of training and qualifying national cadre to oversee the implementation of QCS.
HE the Minister of Environment Ahmed bin Amer Al Hamidi praised the adherence of all sector to the QCS since its implementation in May 2015, pointing that the specifications' standards are constantly renewed and amended coop with the global development in this area.
