DOHA: Ministry of Public Health is observing Qatar Infection Prevention and Control (QIPC) Week from today under the theme “Break the Chain of Infection” in collaboration with healthcare facilities and relevant tertiary institutions.
The campaign includes awareness activities to highlight the importance of infection prevention and control practices at all healthcare facilities. In addition, there will be a public campaign to create awareness.
This year’s QIPC Week is the first infection prevention event at the national level. The week will be marked annually to highlight the importance of infection prevention and control practices wherever healthcare is delivered to improve patient safety.
“QIPC Week aims to highlight the role that best evidence practices in infection prevention and control play in preventing infections. The event also aims at educating healthcare professionals to prevent infections as well as raise awareness among the public on the important role they play to protect themselves and others,” said Huda Amer Al Katheeri, Acting Director of Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety Department, MoPH.
She stressed that the theme for this year’s celebration “Breaking the Chain of Infection” was chosen in line with the celebration of the International Infection Prevention Week that takes place in the third week of October each year.
