Double for Mounir at QTF InterContinental tennis tourney

The prize winners at the QTF InterContinental tennis tournament pose for a picture along with Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) officials at InterContinental Doha Court. The sixth edition of the tournament was held in 19 categories and over 300 players took part.

Doha:  Mounir El Araj won the Men’s Singles and Doubles titles at the QTF InterContinental tennis tournament organised by Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF).

In the final at InterContinental Doha Court, Mounir set aside the challenge of Amir Bayoumi 6-4, 7-6 in a keenly contested encounter.

Mounir went on to complete a double by winning the Mixed Doubles. 

Mounir and his partner Regina Matyak overcame the challenge of Cliff Acaso and Debbie Maceto to win the title.

In the Mixed Doubles, Amir got over his disappointment of losing in the Men’s singles teaming up with Regina Matyak to finish on top.

The pair defeated Cliff Acaso and Debbie Mace 7-5, 6-2 in the Mixed Doubles.

In the ladies section, Habiba Ifrakh completed a double. In the Singles, Habiba defeated Rhizlane Saali 6-1, 6-0 and went on to win the doubles title in the company of Rhizlane. 

The pair trounced Rebecca Franklin and Kelli Campbell 6-0, 6-0 to win the Doubles crown.

The two-week long tournament, into its sixth year, was contested by over 300 players in 19 categories and was sponsored by Galaxy Sports.

The preliminary rounds were held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex and the finals were played on the courts at the Intercontinental Doha. Prizes and gifts vouchers were given to winners and runners-up sponsored by InterContinental Hotel Doha, QTF and Galaxy Sports.

The tournament was held in both the boys and girls section. 

Players contested in the following categories: Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Ladies Singles, Ladies Doubles, Ladies Singles, Girls Under-18, Girls Under-14, Girls Under-12, Girls Under-10, girls Under-9, Boys Under-8, Boys Under-9, Boys Under-10, Boys Under-12, Boys Doubles Under-12, Boys Singles Under-14, Boys Doubles Under-14 and Boys Doubles Under-18. A record number of 80 Qatari players took part in the tournament, according to QTF.  

This year, the organisers introduce two new categories of Under-8 and Under-9 years.

The QTF also hosts several open tournaments which helps the national players to boost their worldwide rankings. 

Tariq Zainal, Assistant Secretary General of QTF, Mohammed Al Subaei, Head of Media Committee at QTF, Hassan Al Bader, Head of National Teams Committee at QTF, Gilles Nicolas, Resident Manager of Intercontinental Doha Hotel were present for the prize distribution ceremony. 

Nicolas thanked sponsors Galaxy Sports and Art & Art Me for their support for the tournament. 

Also in attendance were Sultan Khalfan, Tournament Director, Ehab Awad, Assistant Tournament Director, Ghadir Gahanem from Galaxy Sports and Nancy Karam from Art & Art Me. After presenting the trophies presentation, QTF, represented by Zainal, and InterContinental, represented by Nicolas, exchanged appreciation awards for the successful conduct of the tournament.
