Ambassador of India to Qatar, P Kumaran, led the flag hoisting ceremony held at Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) to commemorate 71st Independence Day of India.
The event was attended by officials from Indian Embassy in Qatar, presidents and officials of different apex bodies, officials of affiliated organisations and members of the community.
The large gathering marked the special occasion of the beginning of grand celebrations planned for the 70th year of Indian Independence celebrations.
The programme began with parade by students from different Indian schools followed by the flag-hoisting, National Anthem and patriotic songs.
ICC President Milan Arun welcomed the gathering.
Amabssador P Kumaran addressed the gathering, and said: “This is an occasion for us to pay tribute to those who laid their lives for our nation and also time for fellow citizens to contribute for the nation building”.
He also red out the message delivered by President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, during the occasion.
ICC General Secretary Juttas Paul conducted the meeting and a cake was cut by the Ambassador as part of celebration.
Head of Consulor services of ICC, K S Prasad, proposed vote of thanks for the meeting.
A grand Cultural Celebrations will be held on Friday at Al Wakrah Sports Club to mark the occasion, where multiple cultural programmes will be presented by different community organisations and Indian schools.
