Washington--US President Barack Obama on Tuesday congratulated his hometown Chicago Blackhawks on hoisting ice hockey's biggest prize, the Stanley Cup.
The Blackhawks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0 on Monday to clinch the NHL championship series 4-2, winning their first title on home ice since 1938.
"Congrats to my hometown @NHLBlackhawks on 3 titles in 6 years - we'll see you and The Cup at the White House!" he said from his new Twitter account with the handle @POTUS -- for President of the United States.
The victory sets up a customary visit to the White House by cup-winning captain Jonathan Toews and the rest of the squad.
