Algiers: Air Algerie on Tuesday suspended all flights in and from the North African country due to an indefinite strike action over salaries.

The strike covers all domestic and out-bound international services but not Air Algerie flights from abroad.

The strike was called "mainly over salary demands", Mounia Bertouche, an Air Algerie spokeswoman, told AFP. "Negotiations are underway to end the crisis quickly."

The airline called on passengers not to head for airports before an announcement that the strike had ended.
