Doha: The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) organised an event for Egyptian fan leaders, as part of the Qatar Fan Leader Network. The event aimed to familiarise the fans with Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, one of the stadiums that will host the World Cup Qatar 2022.
The event was attended by Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Qatar H E Amro Kamal Al Din Al Sherbini, SC Ambassadors Programme Officer Faisal Khalid, and former Egypt international and SC Ambassador Wael Gomaa.
It introduced 30 fans to the stadium and what the fans can expect during the World Cup in Qatar later this year. The fans got to walk on the pitch and visited the locker rooms. Afterwards, a press conference was held where the Egyptian Ambassador and Gomaa answered questions from the fans.
Egypt’s Ambassador H E Al Sherbini expressed his hopes that Qatar will deliver a successful edition of the FIFA World Cup later this year. He highlighted that Qatar’s success reflected on all Arabs and not just on Qatar, adding that it could open the door for other Arab countries to host the event in the future.
He added that the Egyptian fans always played a part in the success of sporting events in Qatar, as evident during the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021. He also said that, if the Egyptian national team reaches the World Cup, the embassy in Qatar will work helping all Egyptian fans inside Qatar and abroad to attend the matches, in coordination with the SC and FIFA.
Khalid welcomed Egyptian fan leaders, saying that the event was an opportunity to familiarise fans from all over the world with Qatar, as well as the stadiums and facilities available during the World Cup 2022.
He said fans are the top priority for the host state, which was one of the reason for launching the Qatar Fan Leader Network to communicate with football fans to ensure they enjoy an unprecedented World Cup edition in Qatar 2022. He added that the Egyptian team is a step away from qualifying for this tournament, and therefore it was important to host Egyptian fans during this event to showcase what has been accomplished so far in terms of preparations for hosting the World Cup.
He said that fan leaders will have the opportunity to obtain all the information through which they can answer the inquiries of the fans in their countries about Qatar. They can provide them with periodic updates about the tournament, with the aim of ensuring the speed of transmission of information directly between the fans and the host country, in order to help Qatar in deliver an unprecedented fan experience during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Gomaa said that the Fan Leader Network was a unique initiative, and one of the many successful SC efforts as it puts the finishing touches over its World Cup 2022 preparations, which are taking place for the first time in the Middle East.
He also said that all Egyptians hope that their team can overcome Senegal during their qualifier play-offs, stressing that all players have the determination to win and qualify to the World Cup.
