DOHA: Ashghal has said its preparedness to deal with sudden rains earlier this month bore fruit as rainwater overflow and logging at several spots in various areas on March 7, 8 and 9 were tackled in a record time. The Public Works Authority said in a statement yesterday that during the three days of rains, it received requests to clear rainwater overflow and logging from at least 130 places.
Most of the water-logging was in areas in the municipalities of Doha, Al Rayyan and Umm Salal, and Ashghal’s Drainage Networks Operation and Maintenance Department handled water-logging.
According to the statement, much of the problem was reported from Abu Hamour, Ain Khaled, Bu Sidra, Al Gharrafa and Al Kharaitiyat.
Ashghal continued to monitor the main roads and subways across the country and quickly deployed tankers and machinery to pump out overflowing and logged water.
In its preparedness, before the onset of the rains, Ashghal had put its teams on an emergency alert, according to the statement to ensure that as soon as requests came in for intervention in the event of rainwater overflow and logging, water pumping teams with equipment could be rushed to the spots.
“For areas that lack infrastructure, Ashghal took measures to ensure faster pumping of rainwater overflow,” the authority said. Ashghal rushed water suction tankers to Al Nasr, Rawdat Al Khail, Barwa City, Corniche, Al Obaidly Roundabout, F-Ring Road, D-Ring Road and Regency traffic intersection, Qatar Sports Club area, Fire Station Roundabout and Al Wabb, among others.
