DOHA: Qatar Airways (QA) will add two more new destinations in the US — Atlanta and Boston —raising the number of gateways to the country to 10, a senior official of the airline said yesterday.
“By this April we will start flying to Boston, QA’s ninth gateway to the US, and on our 10th destination, which is Atlanta, we will commence services by June,” Ehab Abdel Fattah Amin (pictured), Senior Vice-President, Commercial-Qatar, told The Peninsula on the sidelines of an event to mark the ‘Discover America Week 2016’.
Amin said: “QA is working to further promote travel to the US by enhancing services. At the moment we fly to eight destinations but we are working to increase our frequencies to New York to double-daily services from once daily, which will take our number to 11 daily direct flights to the US.”
He said there is significant growth in the number of passengers travelling to the US and vice-versa. Last year some 30,000 Qataris visited the US.
“‘Discover America Week’ is a fantastic opportunity for us to highlight the possibilities of travelling to this diverse country for business or leisure.
“It will allow our passengers to discover the breadth and diversity of this great nation and celebrate ties shared between the people of both countries. QA operates direct flight to eight destinations in the US, including New York, Washington, Dallas, Huston, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles,” he said.
QA is partnering with the US embassy in Doha to celebrate the second annual Discover America Week 2016.
QA is highlighting its exciting American destinations at a booth at The Gate Mall in West Bay, offering travellers up to 25 percent off on all inclusive return fares to the US for the week from yesterday.
The booth was officially opened by US Ambassador Dana Shell Smith and Amin.
Visitors can explore the possibilities of travelling to the US with QA, which flies direct to several of the country’s most popular destinations.
“Air travel to the US has increased nearly 10-fold over the past decade with close to 30,000 Qataris visiting every year.
“As QA continues expansion, we expect the number to grow as more Qataris choose the US as a destination for tourism, business and education.
“We are pleased to have QA as a key partner in ‘Discover America Week’,” said Smith.
