Sheikha Al Mayassa attends talk on contemporary Chinese art

H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson, Qatar Museums, with officials at the opening of the exhibition. 

Doha: H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson, Qatar Museums (QM), was joined by local dignitaries and globally-acclaimed New York-based Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang at the official opening of ‘What About the Art? Contemporary Art from China’ on Sunday at Al Riwaq. 
The exhibition, one of the highlights of Qatar China 2016 Year of Culture, features works by 15 Chinese artists and is open to the public until July 16. 
QM also hosted a panel discussion featuring Cai, alongside Chinese artists Wang Jianwei and Xu Bing, and Han Ziyong, Director, China National Arts Fund Centre. The discussion was chaired by Dr Dina Bangdel, Associate Professor and Director of Art History, Virginia Commonwealth University-Qatar.
Sheikha Al Mayassa and Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, CEO, QM,  delegates from the New York Times Art for Tomorrow conference and members of the public attended.
The discussion coincided with the opening of the exhibition,  curated by Cai. The talk discussed themes related to the exhibition, including creativity, art education and cultural exchange and speakers discussed the contemporary Chinese art in depth.
