Qatar Metrology Department urges residents to ignore “tsunami”  rumours

Doha: Qatar Meteorology Department has urged residents to not pay heed to social media rumours of tsunami hitting GCC countries. Lot of fake stories were circulating in scocial media about weather in the last few days.

 

 

Since Wednesday evening a rumour has been circulating in Arabic social media that tsunami will hit GCC countries and warned residents not to go out of house. on Friday.

The rumour also quoted some fake channels as saying that the waves could be as high as 10 meters.

To a query by a Qatar resident regarding the rumour on Twitter MET said:  "not true, follow warnings issued via our official social media accounts only"

 

The weather bureau said that there will be thundery rains in parts of Qatar and be careful while driving during the rains. 

They wrote of their twitter handle: Warning: Thunder rains expected in Qatar with Strong winds and High Waves. Qatar Meteorology Department urged residents to be cautious and svoid going out in the sea.
