Beijing: H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Cultural Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate to the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) met yesterday with China’s Minister of Culture Luo Shugang.
During the meeting, the Qatari candidate expressed his thanks to the government of China for inviting him to visit and present his programme as Director-General of Unesco.
Dr Al Kawari highlighted Qatar and China’s strong cultural ties, reflected in the two countries’ holding of a year of culture in 2016. He then discussed his vision for Unesco.
The Chinese Minister expressed his best wishes for the Qatari candidate and added that Dr Al Kawari can expect strong support from the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the government as a whole. Qatar’s Ambassador in China Sultan bin Salmeen Almansouri attended the meeting.
