Doha: Following Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) success earlier this year in achieving corporate accreditation as an Academic Medical Centre by Joint Commission International (JCI), HMC has again been internationally recognised with reaccreditation of its laboratory network.
Inspectors from College of American Pathologists (CAP) carried out reaccreditation visits to the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology facilities resulting in the reaccreditation success.
The achievement follows the accreditation of the laboratory network in 2014, demonstrating how HMC continues to provide the highest quality international standard patient care across Qatar.
Minister of Public Health H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, who is also Managing Director, HMC, highlighted the achievement as another example of Qatar’s continued success in the journey towards realising Qatar National Vision 2030 of providing a world-class healthcare system through the delivery of high-quality, international standard patient care.
“Our CAP reaccreditation success continues to demonstrate that we are continually striving to provide patients with a quality healthcare service which meets the highest international standards. High quality diagnostics is the basis for high quality diagnosis and treatment. CAP reaccreditation for the laboratory network is another outstanding example of quality recognition for HMC and follows the recent JCI accreditation success.”
Dr. Ajayeb Al Nabet, Chairperson of the department, said: “CAP reaccreditation is a testimony to the continued dedication and quality of service provided by the team at the department.
“Our pathologists, clinical scientists and technologists work together to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality care, whether this is testing to confirm an illness to screening for diseases such as diabetes or testing to diagnose and monitor treatment for cancers.
“We continually strive to achieve the highest operating standards possible and as a result are very proud of our re-accreditation. Our patients can be assured that they are receiving the best possible care aligned with the highest international standards.”
CAP, an international leader in laboratory quality assurance, has accredited more than 7,600 laboratories in 50 countries. Its certification demonstrates adherence to a high-standard of quality assurance and control as well as staff qualifications, facilities, safety programmes and overall management.
The department is the first integrated laboratory network in Qatar to have its laboratories accredited and re-accredited by CAP.
CAP accredits clinical laboratories based on compliance with a rigorous set of over 3,000 standards. Its accreditation scheme is recognised as the gold standard for clinical laboratories around the world, with CAP accredited laboratories acknowledged as demonstrating excellence in patient care and adherence to best practice laboratory standards.
