Cairo: The Council of the Arab League will hold an extraordinary meeting at the level of permanent delegates on Wednesday to discuss the illegal decision taken by the United States to move its embassy to Jerusalem, following its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupation state, which constitutes an act contrary to the international law and the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.

The General Secretariat of the Arab League said in a statement that the meeting was decided upon at the request of the Permanent Mission of Palestine to the Arab League, and after the approval of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Yemen.

Palestine's Permanent Representative to the Arab League Diab Al Louh announced yesterday that on the instructions of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Al Malki, an emergency meeting of the Council of the Arab League was requested at the level of permanent delegates to confront the illegal American decision on Jerusalem.

Al Louh underlined that the meeting must result in responses, resolutions and practical measures that rise to the level of this unprecedented "catastrophic event" in the international system, in order to convey a unified Arab message from the League of Arab States confirming its serious efforts to overturn the decision of the United States and any other similar resolutions aiming at recognizing occupied Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli entity.

An extraordinary meeting of the Council of the Arab League requires the request of a Member State and the approval of at least two Member States.
