AMU Alumni Association Qatar starts ‘Cricketing Season 2021’

Doha: Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ), an associate organization (AO) of ICBF under the aegis of the Embassy of India, Qatar recently won the match by 30 runs.

The match was played between AMUAAQ Knight Riders and Qatar Gladiators. This was the fifth match for AMUAAQ, which was played against Qatar Gladiators at their ground on February 5. The match was won by AMUAAQ by defeating Qatar Gladiators with a margin of 30 runs. Not to forget here that this was the second victory for QMUAAQ in a row.

AMUAAQ Captain M A Bangash won the toss and elected to bat first. For AMUAAQ, Bangash and Rizwan opened the innings but both the openers couldn’t stay longer at the crease and got out cheaply. Then comes Tawwab and Anees who not only scored their fifties but scored freely and added about 100 runs for the 3rd wicket partnership. The partnership was broken when Tawwab was held at deep midwicket after scoring 52 runs on 29 balls with 4 fours and 3 towering sixes.

Anees remained unbeaten at 79 for 39 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. AMUAAQ ended up scoring 154 for 3 in their allotted quota of 15 overs. For Qatar Gladiators, Amaraja was pick of the bowler who took 2 wicket for 23 runs.

For Qatar Gladitors, Danvika and Sharma opened the innings while for AMUAAQ, Haseeb and Bangash started the proceedings. AMUAAQ Captain Bangash marshalled his troops very well in the ground in terms of field placement and intelligent bowling changes and didn’t allow the batsmen to settle down resulting in batters played the rash shots and succumbed in throwing away their wickets.   

At the end Qatar Gladiators managed to score 124/7 in their allotted quota of 15 overs.

So, AMUAAQ came victorious with 30 runs win. For Qatar Gladiators, Danika scored 24, Shaji 33, Supan and Rajeev 14 each. For AMUAAQ, Bangash took 2 for 25, Rupan Das 2 for 30 and Anees 1 for 13.

Anis was chosen Man of the Match unanimously for his wonderful all-round performances unbeaten 79 runs and 01 wicket for 13 runs (4 overs).

Farrukh Ali Farooqi (Vice Captain - AMUAAQ), M. Faisal Naseem (VP-AMU) and M. Farman Khan (GS-AMUAAQ),  Imtiyaz Ahmed presented highest level of energies in managing their respective teams at the ground.

The Board of Control for Sports AMUAAQ presided by Jawed Ahmad recently has named star all-rounder and past captain of University VM Hall team Mamnoon Ahmad Bangash as the team’s captain while Farrukh Ali Farooqi appointed as the vice-captain. 

Farooqi informed that team AMUAAQ equipped with 15 players while many more interested to join it. Vice-president Faisal  and GS Farman informed that AMUAAQ welcomes the year 2021 with cricket match which was played on January 1, 2021.

Jawed Ahmad, President of AMUAAQ applauded the players and members for their performances. He advised the participants to follow the social distancing, use face mask and wash the hands regularly or use the sanitiser. Ahmad also informed that board is decided to form its 2nd team as well to accommodate all the cricket lovers with the name of AMU Challengers as there are more than 32 cricket players are there in group.
