Qatar Charity has spent over QR1.78m in Bosnia in the past 10 years.

DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has sponsored 2,500 orphans in Bosnia and Herzegovina, helping them continue higher education. One of the orphans has won a global competition on the Holy Quran.
QC also sponsors families, students and Quran teachers. In the past 10 years, it has spent over QR1.78m on sponsorships. As part of its social care initiatives for the vulnerable groups, sponsoring orphans contributes to protecting childhood and saving children from going astray. It also helps save the dignity of needy families, especially in times of disasters and wars.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, orphans receive the biggest share of sponsorship. The number of sponsored orphans is 2,150 across villages and towns of Bosnia.
Last year, the total financial sponsorship allocated for orphans reached around QR5m. Since 1994, QC has sponsored 8,500 orphans. Some of them have graduated from college and are working as employees or craftsmen. The sponsorship programmes offer comprehensive care in the fields of education, health and entertainment.
They also offer financial sponsorships on a monthly basis. The programmes include holding events for orphans — multiple activities such as medical tests, getting tutors, trips, camping, competitions, educational and training courses and workshops.
Last year, QC held for its sponsored orphans entertainment activities and distributed some awards to encourage them. A QC delegation also distributed winter clothes to orphans before the end of 2015.  Many orphans have received education academic or occupational education and many students have excelled in some fields.
QC thanked Qatar’s philanthropists for sponsoring orphans. QC’s field office in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia, was established in 1994 to check upon the people it sponsors and supervise its other projects.
QC has spent over QR202m on social care projects, especially sponsorships of orphans, families and students. It has also built homes, schools, clinics and implemented water projects. Such work contributed to the reconstruction of Bosnia and return of the displaced and refugees who were affected by the war that hit their country in the 90s.  QC sponsors over 92,000 orphans around the world through ‘Rofaqa’ initiative launched in December 2013.
