Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA), Supreme Education Council (SEC), and Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA) announced that they will be collaborating to organise the “School League”.
The announcement during a press conference was attended by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of QFA, Rabeea Mohammed Al Kaabi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the State of Qatar, QSSA representatives and other dignitaries.
Speaking of the deal, Sheikh Hamad said: “We are proud to announce our collaboration with Supreme Education Council (SEC), and Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA) to announce the organising of the “School League”, for the reason that it aspires the young students to lead a healthy lifestyle while competing in a friendly environment against the different schools.”
He added: “This type of tournament will create a football culture amongst the schools in Qatar and motivate students to exercise regularly. to increase awareness about the importance of exercising and leading a healthy lifestyle through playing football. We are committed to providing a platform for community events that the youth can participate it to learn about the importance of football and to be able to play it in order to be healthy.”
Al Kaabi said: “This is an excellent opportunity to unite football and education in a tournament that will benefit the students by developing their health and wellbeing.”
The tournament is set to kick-off mid November, 2013 and will see the participation of 20 schools across Doha.
