Doha: Eric Febbo overcame problems on and off the field to win the fifth round of the Qatar Challenge at the Losail International Circuit.
Febbo despite starting from the back of the grid drove an impressive race to register his first victory at Losail.
He managed to overtake all the drivers consistently to take the win.
“It was really a great race, I had to start from the back of the grid and worked all my way through from the back and it was my first time I ever had to do that but my lap timing was better than yesterday in the qualifying and I felt very good. The track was amazing with a lot of grip,” said Febbo after the race.
Febbo had to start the race from the back of the grid because of garage related problem.
After leading the race in the first half, Tim Stevens finished second.
“The race was very good and exciting as five drivers were very close for the first position. It was a fantastic race and thanks to QMMF and Toyota for the tyres,” Stevens said.
David Walker, who leads the championship with 95 points, finished third.
“It was great fun and a good battle with the drivers in the first couple of laps, I really enjoyed it and this position is good for me to stay in front in the championship,” he said.
With this win, Febbo is second in the standings with 87 points. Pavel Nedobity is third with 77 points and Stevens is fourth with 76 points.
Trophies were given by QMMF General Secretary Mohamed Saad Al Morraikhi, QMMF Board Member Sultan Zaher Al Morraikhi and QMMF Public Relations manager Rashid Al Sulaiti.
The next round will be held on May 23 to 24.
