DOHA: Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi has released three cancer awareness booklets in Braille language for visually impaired people.
The booklets were prepared by Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) in collaboration with Qatar Social and Cultural Centre for the Blind.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about cancer among the visually impaired people, especially students.
Dr Al Hammadi and Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani, Chairman, QCS, signed the booklets in the presence of senior officials of the ministry and the society.
“It is a right of students with visual impairment, especially the blind, to get health-related knowledge and cancer-related medical information, in particular, to help them in the treatment and prevention of the disease,” said the Minister.
He praised efforts of the government under the wise leadership of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to provide people with special needs with quality education and international standard social and health services.
The Minister, who was speaking at the launch of the booklets, also praised QCS’ efforts to create awareness about cancer in the education sector with details like causes and consequences of cancer and how to treat and prevent it.
QCS is using all means of modern scientific methods to provide necessary information to the community, starting with early diagnosis of the disease and raising awareness to help reduce its incidence in the Qatari society.
The Minister also praised the booklets for containing valuable scientific information.
QCS’s efforts will be integrated with the role of the ministry which gives top priority to the people with special needs and is providing them all services in accordance with the best international standards.
Dr Sheikh Khalid highlighted the importance attached by QCS to raising awareness among all segments of society about cancer in general and cancer risk factors and prevention methods in particular, as well as nutrition and its role in the prevention of the disease. The Peninsula
