DOHA: Consumer prices rose 3.3 percent in the country year-on-year last February, and in just a month—as compared to January—inflation was up 0.6 percent.
Increasing cost of recreation and culture, education, housing rent, water and electricity were the main drivers of yearly inflation.
Data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics yesterday reflect that the yearly price rise in the cost of recreation was a high of 9.4 percent.
The cost of education went up by 7.1 percent year-on-year while rent, water and electricity and gas became 5.7 percent costlier.
Transport and furniture and household equipment also became expensive as their prices rose by 2.1 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively.
There were marginal increases in the prices of restaurants and hotels (0.9 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (0.4 percent) and communications (0.2 percent).
Food and beverages, on the other hand, became cheaper by 1.3 percent, healthcare by 0.3 percent, clothing and footwear by 0.1 percent.
Tobacco prices remained unchanged in the year and on a monthly basis. On a monthly basis, the ministry data shows that the cost of recreation and culture went up by three percent, and of miscellaneous goods and services by 1.7 percent.
Restaurants and hotels became 1.3 percent cheaper in a month, while the costs of education, tobacco, healthcare, household equipment remained flat month-on-month.
