Doha: The College of Business and Economics at Qatar University has announced the launch of “Qatar CSR Summit” under the patronage of Prime Minister, and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, from May 16 to 18 in the Sports and Events Complex at the university.

The announcement was made in a press conference held yesterday. Dr. Omar Al Ansari, Qatar University Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Saif Ali Al Hajri, CEO of Qatar CSR National Program and President of Mubadara for Social Impact; Prof. Rana Sobh, Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Qatar University, and Haidar Mshaimesh, General Manager of IFP Qatar attended the press conference.

Dr. Omar Ansari said: “In recognition of its responsibilities, Qatar University has been keen for the past ten years to host and support the very first ever social responsibility focused initiative, Qatar CSR National Program, with the aim of raising the awareness of its students and developing their capabilities in different social responsibility aspects.”

He said Qatar University aims to increase focus on the literature of social responsibility in its curricula and activities, which have been growing steadily and constructively, recognising its role in preparing students in the pre-graduation stage so that they are fully aware of the importance of applying these concepts in their later stages of work, and understand the important role of CSR in strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors and the academic sector.

“As such, we are glad to be also hosting this year the Qatar CSR Summit as part of the 10th edition of Qatar CSR National Program, and look forward to the positive outcome of this new addition to the programme,” said Dr. Ansari.

Dr. Saif Ali Al Hajri said: “Since its inception ten years ago, the Qatar CSR National Program has represented a pioneering step for the State of Qatar in the field of social responsibility. With the programme reaching its tenth year, it had to be developed to keep pace with the current challenges and continue to contribute to spreading the culture of social responsibility in Qatar. Hence the initiative to launch the Qatar CSR Summit this year.”

He said that hosting this event at Qatar University reflects the belief of national institutions in Qatar that social responsibility has become a powerful and unparalleled force to serve the goals set forth in the Qatar National Vision 2030.

“During its course, the programme has enabled thousands of students to understand the added value of the concept of social responsibility and its role in the development of institutions and organisations in which they worked for after their graduation. And we hope that by launching this first of its kind summit in Qatar, we would enable the business community to form a similar understanding of the importance of social responsibility in conducting business,” said Al Hajri.

Dr. Rana Sobh, said:” With the growing national and international recognition that universities are the first platform for influencing society, Qatar University continues its pioneering role in adopting initiatives and organising events that contribute to raising awareness regarding social responsibility.”
