Doha: Anti-Doping Lab Qatar (ADLQ) - the first specialised laboratory of its kind in the Middle East - has got the accreditation to conduct Athletes Biological Passport (ABP) tests, it was revealed here yesterday.
“After several tests and checks, WADA Executive Committee has certified that ADLQ has fulfilled all the required and  the lab is officially authorised now to test blood samples for the Athletes Biological Passport  with immediate effect. This is a great achievement for the Lab and will motivate ADLQ team towards achieving WADA accreditation for Anti-Doping tests and analyses,” ADLQ said in a press release here yesterday
Athletes Biological passport testing is a relatively new kind of testing and is becoming vital in the war against Doping.
“We are excited and proud. This is one of the most important moments in the Laboratory’s life and this is the begining of our success story. This accreditation makes us well within schedule to obtain full accreditation by the end of the year,”  said ADLQ General Manager Dr Muhammad Alsyarafi,
Director of Doping Analysis Laboratory, Dr  Costas Georgakopoulos said: “This is time of joy. We have a lot of work ahead and the sky is the limit.”
