DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has run emergency mobile clinics, providing healthcare services for the displaced communities inside Syria.
In a couple of weeks, the clinics served 2,160 people, 180 per day.
In southern Aleppo countryside, there are nearly 120,000 IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons), a figure that is likely to increase as the fighting is extending to new regions.
The towns that were destinations of IDPs are projected to receive a new influx, causing additional pressure on humanitarian organisations working in Syria, especially with the advent of the cold winter. To deal with the wide geographic scope of clashes, a flexible intervention plan was designed to distribute QRCS’s health centres and the available stock of medications and surgical supplies among the regions in need of help, in coordination with peers to avoid duplication of efforts.
One of the regions targeted by QRCS medical services was Al Zarba, a town in southern Aleppo countryside, which experienced severe violence that displaced a large portion of the population of the town, already hosting 15,000 IDPs. Al Zarba Primary Healthcare Center was turned into an emergency medical hub to receive serious cases, carry out first aid and refer them to hospitals, if needed. To meet the excessive demand, work hours at the centre were extended to 24/7.
QRCS supplied the centre with surgical consumables and solutions to treat injuries and burns.
A mobile clinic was sent from the centre to visit IDP groups in several towns in the southern countryside region. Another mobile clinic was sent from Anjara Center for IDP-hosting towns in southern and western Aleppo countryside. A third clinic was sent to Alteh to visit the adjacent IDP camps in several towns.
