Seoul: The first-month sales of Samsung Electronics Co.'s Galaxy S7 series are estimated to hover at least 25 percent above their predecessor, data showed Tuesday, casting a rosy outlook over the firm's returns from smartphone sales.
According to the data compiled by industry tracker Counterpoint Research, the first-month sales of the Galaxy S7 hovered well above the Galaxy S6 series, with shipments in the United States jumping 30%, according to Yonhap news agency.
Compared to the Galaxy S6 series, the sales of the new smartphones moved up 20% in West Europe and 10% in China, the data also showed.
"(The Galaxy S7 series) is expected to post the best performance among Samsung's flagships released over the past three years," the researcher said.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones, first showcased at a trade fair in Spain in February, come with improved batteries and are water and dust resistant. The company also brought back the micro SD card slot that had disappeared in the Galaxy S6 series.
The new smartphones are presumed to have lent support to Samsung's first-quarter earnings.
Earlier this month, Samsung said it is believed to have posted an operating profit of 6.6 trillion won (US$5.77 billion) in the January-March period, up 10.37% from the same period last year. The finalized earnings report, including the breakdown of each business division, will be announced at end-April.
