The number of building permits issued last month has increased by 11 percent compared to the previous month, with the highest permits issued at Rayyan municipality at 187, said a monthly report issued by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.
The increase was significant in the municipalities of Wakrah (44%), Al Shamal (22%) and Al Da'ayen (20%). On the other hand, there was a decrease in the number in municipalities of Umm Slal (24%) and Rayyan (6%). Other municipalities didn’t witness a noticeable change.
For the first time, the report has separate data on Sheehaniya municipality, which was previously included with the Rayyan data.
According to the geographical distribution, Rayyan municipality comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued was 187 permits, i.e. 29% of the total issued permits, while Doha municipality came in second place with 135 permits, i.e. 21%, followed by the municipality of Al Wakrah with 127 permits (20%), municipality of Al Da'ayen with 76 permits, i.e.12%.The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Slal 45 permits (7%), Al Sheehaniya 33 permits (5%), Al Khor 24 permits (4%), and finally Al Shamal 11 permits (2%).
In terms of types of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 57% (366 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of January 2017, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 38% (243 permits), and finally fencing permits with 5% (29 permits).
By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas’ permits top the list, accounting for 48% (152 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans by 42% (132 permits) and apartments buildings by 7% (22 permits).
Commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 40% (21 permits), followed by industrial buildings e.g. workshops and factories with 25% (13 permits), mosques with 19% (10 permits), government buildings with 15% (8 permits).
