DOHA:  Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF), in collaboration with ‘Sham’ humanitarian organisation, has launched an income generation project for the internally displaced people in Syria.
The project ‘Al Kasb Al Taiyab’ (Earning livelihood through honest means) is being implemented in Aleppo, Homs, Daraa, Hama and Idlib to provide job opportunities and small business to the beneficiaries.  The project aims at setting up and financing small businesses for the most deserving poor families to generate a monthly income for them in a bid to make them self-dependent.
Dozens of displaced families will benefit from the project.
RAF, in collaboration with its local partner, conducted a study to assess the needs of such projects. The project was launched after listing the most deserving people, the areas and the needs of the markets in the targeted areas.
As soon as the project was announced, many applications were received.
The office concerned sorted out the applications. A contract was signed with the deserving families. The beneficiaries were provided financial support and consultancies. A feasibility study was also conducted to evaluate the impact of the projects on the beneficiary families and areas.
The beneficiaries were provided funds to set up small businesses like poultry and animal breeding farms, machines for dairy products. Some of them were also given money to open workshops, garages, tailoring shops, shops selling bags and shoes, shops for stationeries and electric appliances etc.
This project is a direct investment in the local market and will help put an end to unemployment. Residents will not be forced to leave their homes due to financial reasons.
A beneficiary, who lost both his legs in an accident, shared his plight. “Now I can look at the faces of people and I can sit with them. Now I can come out from my home for earning a livelihood for my family. May God bless those who contributed to take us from a miserable life,” he said.
