Doha: The inspectors of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Unit of the Wildlife Development Department have recorded four violations of some provisions of the environment law.

The violators entered with vehicles in green lands — meadows destroying ecosystem — plants, grassland and vegetations at a number of places in desert areas.

The legal actions were taken against the violators, said the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in a statement.

The Ministry has called on goers of meadows and winter camping areas to not drive their vehicles into green areas in a bid to avoid legal accountability and preserve the environment.

The action was taken following the provisions of the Law which prohibits destroying plant ecosystem and those come under it.

According to the Law, the plant ecosystem is the lands which are covered by a group of plants, whether they are naturally grown, cultivated or planted, and those with trees, shrubs, weeds, herbs and various other living organisms.

And such lands are not designated for agricultural purposes, and the trees are the dominant element in them, owned by the State, and no one has the right to benefit from these lands, the law suggests.

The Department of Protection and Wildlife has intensified the inspection campaign and it deployed patrols with environment inspectors to monitor the green lands across the country for any disruptive activities. Vehicles, heavy machines and equipment are only allowed to drive on the designated roads and paved ways in those areas.

Meanwhile, the Marine Protection Department, the Doha Unit of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, seized fishing nets that violated the conditions at the Fesht coral reef site. The nets were confiscated and the fishermen issued a fine.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change noted that fishing without a permit is prohibited, and fishing with multi-layered nets and fishing near islands and coral reefs is completely prohibited by any means, as it is considered a breeding ground for marine life.
