DOHA: The Aquarium Research Center in Ras Matbakh is in the second phase of construction. Until October more than 51 percent of the project was completed and it is expected to be finalised by June 2016, said senior official from the Ministry of Environment. The project to be run by the fisheries department at the ministry in collaboration with Qatar University (QU) is being built on an area of 110,000 sqm at a cost of QR230m, said Mohamed Saeed Al Mohannadi, Director of Fisheries Department. Mohannadi was talking to members of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) who visited the Aquarium Research Center yesterday. The aim of the visit was to see the progress of work in the project which is under construction. The CMC delegation comprised members of Services and Facilities Committee at the Council and headed by Eng. Hamad bin Lahdan Al Mahanadi, deputy chairman and head of the committee.
Implementation of the project started in March 2014 with the aim of creating suitable environment for development of marine lives, enhance scientific researches, meet economic and social needs under the current development of the country, in addition to protection of natural resources said Al Mohannadi.
