Fifth Arab Future Cities Summit 2016 to open tomorrow

DOHA: Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti will inaugurate the fifth Arab Future Cities Summit 2016 tomorrow.
It will be held for two days at Ritz-Carlton Hotel Doha under the patronage of the ministry and in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The summit will be attended by ministers, ambassadors, senior officials, representatives of government and private sector entities and GCC organisations and top officials representing the transportation, telecommunication and urban development sectors.
Key speakers are Reem Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary, Digital Society Sector Development,  Ministry of Transport and Communications; Faleh Al Naemi, Chairman and Managing Director, Qatar Post; and Waleed Al Sayed, Deputy CEO, Ooredoo Group, and CEO, Ooredoo Qatar. 
The event will see the launch of new postal services that keep abreast with the latest trends in the sector. 
There will be a sideline exhibition of models of key projects in Qatar in the fields of transportation, mobility and roads featuring the Qatar Railways Company (Qatari Rail), Qatar Ports Management Co (Mwani), Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Geographic Information Systems Qatar, among others.
Topics include digital society and sustainable development in Qatar, and ways of benefiting from information and communication technologies to transform Doha into a smart city. 
The summit will facilitate an international platform to discuss ways of transferring knowledge and  know-how, reflecting on technological and social innovations and transformations happening in cities. 
It will also discuss implementation of the Arab smart cities development; the required infrastructure; issues and challenges being faced and solutions to overcome them.
The summit will also shed light on measures and strategies capable of achieving sustainability and the development of Doha into a smart city, and the latest trends related to smart cities development. The Peninsula
