DOHA: The weather is likely to be stable this evening but there is remote chance of scattered rains after dusk tomorrow.
The rains could be moderate to heavy, said Abdullah Al Mannai, a senior Met official.
Rains that lashed the country in the past two days were caused by a cold wave in the upper layers of the atmosphere, he told Qatar News Agency (QNA).
The thunder and rain being witnessed at this time of the year are normal as “we are still in the winter season,” said Al Mannai.
According to him, onset of summer is expected after March 21. And if it rains tomorrow evening, the weather will be stable once again from Saturday, he added.
Mesaieed recorded 21mm of rain yesterday and Abu Hamour 19mm, a forecaster told this newspaper.
Doha witnessed 14.6mm of rain whereas Hamad International Airport (HIA) and surrounding areas recorded 16mm.
Al Ruwais in the north, which receives maximum rainfall in the country, was dry yesterday. It witnessed no rains, the forecaster said.
The routine weather forecast issued by the Met Office said the weather today could be partly cloudy with some chances of scattered rains.
There is warning of thunderstorm and gusty winds in offshore areas.
Day temperatures may vary between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius, while the night could be colder at between 18 and 20 degrees.
