Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Katara, explains the project to some of the artists.

Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) has launched an artistic project ‘Katara Murals with the Brushes of Artists’ in which more than 50 artists from 18 nationalities from Qatar and abroad will be involved.
Katara held a preliminary meeting with the organising committee and many participating artists.
It  discussed the project, its artistic and innovative uniqueness and added value to participating artists and the artistic environment at Katara. Artists were briefed on terms and conditions for participation and the standards of works to be presented. The project involves a collection of murals prepared by artists. Katara has dedicated blank murals around the Cultural Village for Qatari and resident artists who draw murals in front of the public.
Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Katara, said: “The project is part of Katara’s efforts towards enriching the local artistic landscape. We are confident that the murals will have an artistic touch on Katara, a wonderful cultural and artistic facility.” He said the project affirms that Katara’s cultural and artistic richness inspires artists with creativity and will help exhibit the beauty of Katara whose facilities combine heritage and modernity.
The murals will enhance interaction between artists and the audience, who will  have a chance to observe the progress of the paintings and will be in touch with artists.
“We didn’t confine the project to a certain group or painting style. We gave artists the freedom to draw according to their style. Our requirements are limited to the technical aspects of the murals, such as the quality of paintings and they need to be resistant to the weather conditions.
“Katara has left participation open to professional and amateur artists to provide more opportunities for the exchange of expertise and benefit from each other. “Art is the common language between peoples irrespective to their differences. This comes as part of Katara’s mission to build bridges between cultures,” he added.
Dr. Al Sulaiti praised the participation of the artists and said: “The murals are seen as artistic record of the facilities at Katara and its ongoing development and expansion, in addition to its cultural messages that aim to build bridges between nations.”
The organising committee overseeing the project has set criteria based on which 50 artists were shortlisted.
Drawings to be directly put on the walls will be inspired by the Qatari culture and Katara’s geography, culture and  plans.
