DOHA: The Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) branch in Al Khor is conducting informative programmes at schools and social centres for the local community in Al Shamal.
It is also participating in the Safe Journey Exhibition, serving some 1,400 male and female beneficiaries, mostly youngsters.
Under the ‘I Am a Paramedic,’ a programme executed by QRCS and sponsored by Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme (COP), four health awareness lectures were organised for 450 students of Umm Salal Ali Model Independent School for Boys, Simaisma Primary School for Boys, and Simaisma Preparatory School for Boys.
The lectures aimed to raise awareness among young students about the importance and principles of first aid.
They were trained in how to medically help any student suffering a fracture, wound or bleeding from the nose.
In relation to health education, QRCS held two hygiene lectures for 450 students of grades 1-6 of Al Khor Model School for Boys and Umm Salal Ali Model Independent School for Boys.
QRCS lecturers introduced students to personal hygiene, common diseases and preventive precautions.
Another lecture on nutrition was delivered by Dr Mohalal Mohamed Ahmed for teachers and parents at Umm Salal Model Kindergarten for Boys.
The lecture covered nutrition guidelines and the impact of malnutrition, informing the attendees of their significant role in promoting this information among others.
In the two-day Safe Journey exhibition at Al Shamal Sports Club and Al Thakhira Youth Centre, QRCS had a special corner to communicate with students and introduced them to its activities and services.
A QRCS team distributed health education brochures and conducted free blood sugar and pressure tests for over 500 visitors. QRCS’s medical staff and ambulance vehicles provided medical coverage for the venues.
