Jury panel named for Al Jazeera Documentary Film Festival

DOHA: The Al Jazeera International Documentary Film Festival yesterday revealed the members of the jury for its 11th edition.
Among the jurors who will evaluate 147 films in the competition are director Jose Sanchez-Montes from Spain, cinematographer Rossella Piccinno (Italy), film producer Omar Olzabal Rodriguez (Cuba), Professor Tongdao Zhang (China) and cinematographer Chaker Ayadi (Tunisia).
Completing the list of international jury are Dr Rabia Al Kuwari from Qatar, Dr Khaled Al Zadjali (Oman), Jelena Mila (Sweden), Hala Zuraiqat (Jordan), Abdullah Abu Awad (Morocco), Dr Maryse Gargour (France), Kaveh Askari (Iran), Dr Erkan Buker (Turkey) and Galina Krasnoborova (Russia).
The committee will be split into three sub-committees and begin reviewing films on November 20 to choose the winners of awards in various categories, including short, medium and long. 
Awards include Al Jazeera Golden Award, Jury Award, Best Director Award, Best Camerawork Award, New Horizon Award, Al Jazeera Documentary Channel Award, Public Liberties and Human Rights Award, and Child and Family Award.
A total of QR600,000 will be given to the winners of various awards. 
With the theme ‘Horizons’, this year’s festival received 920 entry forms and 775 films, out of which 147 were shortlisted which include 30 long, 50 medium, 47 short and 20 new horizon films.
Organised under the patronage of Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, Chairman, Al Jazeera Media Network Board, the festival will take place from November 26 to 29 at the Ritz-Carlton Doha.
